PWF's First Breakfast Club
Our first "Breakfast Club" of the Summer was a huge success.  Breakfast Club classes are run as a big, flat-only equitation class.  Carly Johns (PWF alum and last year's Captain of the South Carolina NCAA Championship Equestrian Team) sat in as our guest judge.  Scribes sat behind the judge with a sheet of paper for each rider and recorded all of the judge's thoughts on everything from position, rider effectiveness, to the fit of the riders' boots to the color of their shirts!  The class is run like a horse show class, with increasing difficulty as we go along.  This week, riders had to dismount, mount, shorten and lengthen strides, drop their stirrups, and counter canter among other things.  The judge "thinks out loud" and the scribes catch it all- likes and dislikes for each rider and the reasoning behind her placements.

Several winners were chosen:  Savannah Cohen was chosen as overall equitation winner for her style and show ring presence.  Eileen Modzeleski was the winner after the "work off".  Her horse learned to counter canter and perform a turn on the haunches just the day before!

After the girls put their horses away, we moved to our lounge and passed out the comment sheets, had a big breakfast and then a discussion of the class. This class is a unique opportunity to get some feedback from a judge.  Thank you Carly and thanks to our Moms for the breakfast!

Riding Clinic with Linda Allen
Linda AllenPWF hosted a riding clinic with Olympic Course Designer, Judge and Trainer, Linda Allen, in February.  What an amazing experience!  It was really fun to take a weekend off from showing to just learn in a non-competitive environment.  Friday evening, we all got together for an Italian Dinner and lecture with the topic of "A Judge's Perspective."

The riding sessions on Saturday and Sunday were both fun and challenging.  Riders and horses of all levels really stepped up to the plate to work through the exercises designed by Linda.  By the end of the weekend, all the riders were so confident and proud of themselves.  We will definitely invite Linda back again next year!
